Budget

State Budget Submission 2008-2009

The State Budget Submission 2008-2009 outlines the youth sector’s 10 priority areas for expenditure in the interests of young South Australians. Key areas where investment is required in 2008-2009 include: juvenile justice and full funding of the recommendations in To Break the Cycle; further strengthening of the foster care system, including improved investment in individualised learning plans for young people in care; expansion of the SA Works program; improvements in mental health service delivery to young people; investment in housing strategies targeted at the needs and circumstances of young people; and more.

Other

UNISA and SACOSS release report detailing workforce challenges the sector faces. Careers at the Coalface, a research project conducted over three years included information collected on more than 1000 organisations, predicts an increase of 30,000 jobs in the sector across Australia over the next 5 years. With the most obviously ageing population in Australia, South Australia must develop a robust and high quality workforce as this is the workforce that will continue to support those most vulnerable in our community.
