Previous YACSA Policy Council Think-Tanks

In 2010 YACSA held two Policy Council Think-Tanks.

The first of these forums – Beyond Magill – was held on Friday 23 July and focused on juvenile justice issues, specifically juvenile detention in SA.

The forum consisted of three presentations.

Renae Reimers from the Courts Administration Authority spoke about court-based diversion programs for young people;

Jackie Bray from the Youth Justice Directorate of the Department for Families and Communities provided an update on the progress of the centre replacing Magill; and

Anthony Malone, from the Department of Correctional Services in the ACT gave an overview of the challenges and benefits of setting up and operating a prison based on human rights principles, using Canberra’s Alexander Maconochie Centre as a case study.

These presentations were followed by a discussion session for participants, where people had the opportunity to help set YACSA’s advocacy priorities in this area.
