Youth Participation

Youth Participation is a key principle of YACSA, and a central component to the way we work.

How to get Involved

Young members of YACSA have a variety of ways in which they can be involved in YACSA these include:

Action

Young members can participate in consultations and discussions in relation to key policy/ programs areas initiated by the government or community that directly affect young people.

Participation

Young members can actively be involved in the development of key activities of YACSA such as: sitting on the Policy Council; being involved in YOUTHink; being involved in Pizza & Politics evenings; developing and presenting Youth Participation Workshops as requested by the sector; and a range of other aspects related to the infrastructure of YACSA.

Training

Young members will have the opportunity to participate in various training workshops. It is worth checking out YACSA training and the Courses Diary regularly.

Youth Participation Training

YACSA is available to work with member organisations and networks to conduct Youth Participation training. This is tailored to help your network or organisation work effectively with young people.

Youth Participation Resources

YACSA's sister peak in Victoria, YACVic, has developed a range of handbooks for both organisations and youth to help you better understand the principles of youth participation. They have been developed in conjunction with the Victorian Office for Youth:

Consulting young people about their ideas and opinions: A handbook for organisations working with young people (1.1Mb)

Creating Change in your community: A handbook for young people (0.99Mb)
