2019 Federal Budget at a Glance – July 2019

At first glance the 2019-20 budget appears to offer little to assist young people while offering plenty to sway older voters in the lead up to the Federal election. But it wasn’t all bad news for young people; YACSA welcomes additional funding for mental health services, domestic and family violence services and an increase in apprenticeships and VET training. Conversely, YACSA is disappointed that there were no meaningful announcements on housing affordability and the rates for Newstart and Youth Allowance will not be increased leaving recipients to continue to live on less than $40 a day.
